Jack Lalanne - The Essence of Vitality

While yesterday’s news about the passing of 96-year-old fitness guru Jack Lalanne saddened me it also compelled me to blog about him and reflect on what exactly is vitality. In my mind, I always thought of Jack Lalanne as someone who would live forever. In fact, he is quoted to have said, “Dying would wreck my image." I can remember seeing him on TV demonstrating an exercise machine, which was this vibrating belt around his waist & hips, and his wife demonstrating leg lifts.

As part of the inviteCHANGE faculty team, I recently completed the inviteCHANGE Mentor Coach Certification Program (MCCP). My goal was to deepen my learning about an inviteCHANGE training program and gain new knowledge and skills in the process, in that order. I knew I was about to embark on an impeccable learning experience led by Amorah Ross, MCC, and I was delighted to receive a bonus from the cohesive efforts of the learning community that enabled me to make a shift in my coaching abilities and behaviors. In addition, this process gave me new insights for how ICF can help strengthen the value proposition of the coaching profession.

I read this story on Scott Eblin's blog this week about the 33 Chilean miners caught in a mining collapse. They were presumed dead for 17 days, and it will take 2-4 months before they are dug out. Can you imagine?

Here in the US this holiday marks a passage for me from the fun 'dog days of summer' into a keen focus on how I will finish the year well, putting a nice bow on my intentions, choices, actions and results. Having just returned from vacation, I am musing on my own professional development desires for the balance of the year. Into my email box this morning came a wonderful invitation from one of our graduates and an ICF, MCC professional, Molly Gordon.

Most organizations invest a great deal of time and money to hone and refine their brand message and mold the public's perception of their business. If this investment of time isn't matched through investment of time in communicating with your employees, vendors and strategic business partners, all your hard work can go for naught in just a few conversations.
